South Carolina men accused of carrying illegal weapon on the road

CORNWALL, NY – Two men from South Carolina were accused of carrying an illegal weapon while traveling on Thruway.

New York State Police said that at around 5:30 am Thursday, soldiers stopped a car on Interstate 87 in Cornwall for a vehicle and traffic violation.

When talking to the driver, the probable cause for the search of the vehicle and its occupants was determined.

Police said the search led to finding a 9 mm Springfield Armory XDS-9 pistol and a Springfield Armory magazine loaded with seven 9 mm cartridges.

The driver, Israel Davis, 25, and the passenger, Malick Davis, 22, both from Hemingway, South Carolina, were taken into custody and prosecuted at the Newburgh barracks.

Israel Davis was accused of criminal possession of a fourth degree weapon, a misdemeanor.

Malick Davis was charged with criminal possession of a third-degree weapon, a crime, due to a previous conviction, police said.

Both men were charged with criminal possession of a firearm, a crime.

They were released with presentation tickets returned to the Cornwall City Court on 10 March.
