South Carolina man arrested after trying to break into prison with contraband – WSOC TV

ENOREE, SC – You have heard of people who tried to escape from prison. On Wednesday, a South Carolina man was arrested for trying to break in a prison.

South Carolina Department of Corrections officials said in a press release that Nathaniel Jose Perez, 19, from Spartanburg, was found between an internal and external fence at the Tyger River Correctional Institution. Authorities said Perez was bleeding from cuts of barbed wire on the fence and pieces of his clothes were stuck in the fence, WCSC said.

Perez was charged with invading prison, marijuana possession with the intention of distributing and attempting to smuggle prisoners into smuggling, according to online records from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

A large hole was made in the fence, prison officials said.

According to an arrest warrant, Perez was found with four backpacks that contained marijuana, tobacco, alcohol, cell phones and other items, WLTX reported. According to an arrest warrant, Perez admitted that he tried to deliver items to prisoners for payment.

Perez was taken to a local hospital for treatment, WSPA reported. After his release, he was arrested at the Spartanburg County Detention Center.
