South Carolina leaders react to protests and violence in Washington DC

COLOMBIA, SC (WOLO) – On Wednesday, protesters gathered to oppose the Electoral College’s certification and some stormed the United States Capitol building. Several South Carolina leaders tweeted their reactions to the events.

Senator Lindsey Graham called the violence “a national constraint”.

I support peaceful protests, but not violence and destruction. People need to leave Capitol now!

Senator Tim Scott says his team is safe.

The violence that is taking place on the United States Capitol is now simply unacceptable, and I totally condemn it.

Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley called the events non-American.

Every American has the right to protest peacefully. What is happening now in the United States Capitol building is wrong and anti-American. We are better than that.

Deputy Nancy Mace said she had evacuated her office due to an upcoming threat.

I just evacuated my office in Cannon due to a near threat. We are now seeing protesters attacking the Capitol Police.
