South Carolina LB Sherrod Greene for at least 4 to 6 weeks with hip fracture

COLOMBIA, SC – South Carolina starting linebacker Sherrod Greene will miss at least the next four to six weeks with a hip fracture, Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp said on Tuesday.

Greene, a six-foot six-pound senior who started in 23 of his last 26 games for South Carolina, was injured in the Gamecocks’ 31-27 loss to No. 21 Tennessee on Saturday night.

Muschamp said on Tuesday that Greene’s injury was “unusual” and that Greene would not need surgery. Greene will be checked again in about a month or more.

“Hopefully, he will be back in that time,” said the coach. “But it is a very unusual injury.”

Muschamp said reserve Damani Staley will take over from Greene as the starter when South Carolina reaches third place in Florida on Saturday.

Greene was second in South Carolina with 73 tackles in 2018. He played only nine games last season and finished with 35 stops.
