South Carolina Invitational awaits Auburn Track & Field

AUBURN, Ala.—Auburn’s indoor athletics team will compete for the third consecutive weekend when they travel to the South Carolina Invitational, February 5-6, in Columbia, SC. The highly competitive match will feature six SEC programs and 11 teams ranked overall. Auburn is ranked 21st nationally on the women’s side by the USTFCCCA.

Competing teams (with M / W ratings) include: Alabama (9/15), Auburn (- / 21), Cincinnati, Clemson (- / 15), Florida (- / 19), Furman, Georgia Tech, Kentucky (22 / 12), North Carolina A&T (7 / -), Ole Miss (6/18), South Carolina (- / 17), Georgia (Multis), Notre Dame (Multis) and Wake Forest (Multis).

“Every weekend we face a fierce competition and it will be no different this weekend, with many qualified teams and Power 5 programs”, Auburn coach Ralph Spry said. “I want to see the progress of our team. We had children who were sharper. This weekend I want to see more fighting. It’s not always about the brands, it’s how you compete. If you compete a lot and the environment is there, and the competition there, the brands will take care of themselves. “

Auburn enters the weekend with two women ranked in the top 10 in the country, including juniors Madi Malone who has the best brand in the country in weightlifting, as a junior Joyce Kimeli it is the 8th in the country at 3000m.

On the male side, the Tigers have five athletes in the national Top 25, including the high jump jumper Dontavious Hill which is rated No. 7 after cleaning 2.15m / 7-0.5 two weeks ago at the same location this weekend. Heptathlete Alex Spyridonidis is No. 13 in the heptathlon, while the pole vault James Courson and launcher Kyle Brown (shot put) are number 15 each in their respective event. Junior sprinter Christopher Grant, the bronze medalist at the SECs last year in the 60 meters dash will make his debut in 2021 this weekend.

Friday’s screen will feature multi events with male heptathlon and female pentathlon. Competing in the multis for Auburn include second year David Edmondson and freshman John Murray on the male and senior side Keira McCarrell on the side of women. The action starts at 9:30 am ET with the 60m hurdles pentathlon.

A full day of action on Saturday will begin at 9am ET with the completion of the male heptathlon. The field events will start at 11h ET with the launch of the men’s weight, while the race events will start at 11h05 ET with events in the men’s 60m hurdles. Saturday’s competition will be broadcast live on ESPN + for those who have a subscription.
