South Carolina has a quiet signing day

December’s Early Signature Day arrived and passed to South Carolina without much fanfare, like just a handful of candidates enrolled with Gamecocks.

South Carolina, which was not recruiting at a high level in 2021, even before coach Will Muschamp was fired, was forced to try to maintain his recruiting class after several desertions. New head coach Shane Beamer, still completing his tenure in Oklahoma, will definitely have some work to do – and is expected to be ready to start working on his sales pitch once the NCAA transfer portal opens.

Candidates who signed with South Carolina today, all recruits three stars:

  • O’Mega Blake, WR (Rock Hill, SC – also the absolute winner of “Best name in class”)
  • Nicholas Barrett, DL (Goldsboro, NC)
  • Marcellus Dial, CB (Georgia Military College)
  • Jordan Davis, OL (Fairburn, Georgia)
  • Colten Gauthier, QB (Dacula, Ga.)
  • Caleb “Juju” McDowell, RB (Leesburg, Georgia)
  • Sam Reynolds, WR (Alabaster, Alabama)

JonDarius Morgan (OL; Birmingham, Ala.) And TJ Sanders (DL; Marion, SC) commitments are waiting until February to sign.

Four signatories will apply in early January – Gauthier, Reynolds, Barrett and Dial.

The Gamecocks class is currently in 105th place in the ranking consisting of 247 sports (which, probably need not mention, is the SEC’s last). Again, the transfer portal will be huge here if South Carolina wants to save a lot more for 2021.
