The start of the college basketball season also means a return to the explosions, and South Carolina’s No. 1 wasted no time before dismantling his first opponent.
The Gamecocks defeated the College of Charleston, 119-38, on Wednesday night, to secure their second biggest win in the program’s history, according to The state. The 81-point victory is tied for the Fourth highest scoring margin in all Division I women’s basketball in the past five seasons.
Gamecocks scored more points and goals and had more rebounds than in coach Dawn Staley’s more than 12 seasons with the program. Each player scored, and four doubles registered.
The 119 points are tied for the third most scored in a single game in the program’s history. The win also extends the team’s record winning streak to 27 games.
South Carolina ended the last season with the highest number of victories in the Top 25, the longest winning streak and was in 1st place for longer than any other team.
