South Carolina game 3 recap. Mercer: Gamecocks eliminated Bears 1-0, scan series

The third game between South Carolina and Mercer was heavier on a good shot than on the high scoring attack, but the Gamecocks did just enough to come out with another win and another sweep.

The game’s only race was scheduled on the fourth inning, when David Mendham walked and later scored on an RBI groundout by Joe Satterfield. Neither team threatened so much at any other point in the game, although the USC has sometimes left runners jailed.

Gamecocks holder Julian Bosnic had a strong performance, working 5.2 innings while giving up zero strokes or runs, walking four hitters and eliminating nine. He won the victory and is 1-0. Jack Mahoney and Brett Kerry agreed to do the rest of the way for Carolina, and Kerry made the defense, the first. Bears starter Jackson Kelley went to the eighth inning and did a very good job, but he accepted defeat and dropped to 1-2. Satterfield, Josiah Sightler, Braylen Wimmer and George Callil were the only Gamecocks to register a success.

With the victory, USC is now 10-0 in the season, while Mercer drops to 3-7. Gamecocks will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to play The Citadel. The first performance is scheduled for 6 pm in Charleston.
