South Carolina freshman Catherine Barry receives weekly SEC honors for the second time

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina freshman women’s football striker Catherine Barry was named freshman of the week for the SEC for the second time this season, after her performance against Coastal Carolina.

The native of Hingham, Massachusetts, scored her fifth goal in the team’s lead in the season in the 3-0 win over Coastal Carolina on Sunday. The rookie also helped with an insurance goal for Gamecocks, adding her team leader 13 points this year. Its multipoint performance is the third of the season and is the one that most ties up Carolina’s active student-athletes in a career.

South Carolina has won a total of six weekly SEC honors this season and has won each of the three weekly honors twice, including Barry’s two Freshman nominations. Barry was also named to the SEC All-Freshman and SEC All-Tournament team in the fall, after finishing the first part of the season with four goals and two assists.

Barry and Gamecocks No. 10 (9-3-0, 6-2-0 SEC) have a small turnaround before their match with Elon (2-1-0, 1-1-0 CAA) on Thursday, March 25 at 6 pm The road test, the first between Elon and South Carolina, will be Carolina’s first this spring.
