South Carolina has a lot of work to do to complete its 2021 football hiring course. The Gamecocks signed eight of their 10 engagements on Wednesday.

Defensive tip TJ Sanders decided to wait until February, but said he was still committed to the USC. Wide receiver Derwin Burgess, who never announced a withdrawal, ended up signing with Georgia Southern.

A major flaw on the Signature Day for Gamecocks was defensive tip Byron Young of Military JC of Georgia and Carvers Bay. The Gamecocks made a big effort for him, but he signed with Tennessee.

The defensive side of USC target Jimmori Robinson of Monroe (NY) JC announced a commitment to Texas-San Antonio. He won’t sign until February.

Beamer looking for more USC signatories

USC’s new technician, Shane Beamer, will be combing the transfer portal and junior colleges for immediate help. Thirteen seats in the class count four, when the four current Gamecocks that count against the 2021 class are included.

It looks like Beamer will get another junior college cornerback on Friday, when Isaiah Norris of TL Hanna and Georgia Military makes his announcement. Norris was committed to the state of Middle Tennessee and had offers from the state of Tennessee and Washington.

Norris played in 2019 at the New Mexico Military JC and had five interceptions. He won’t be playing for the GMA this spring and will focus on his grades so he can leave in the spring.

Another location could go to Juwon Gaston security in Montgomery, Alabama. It was offered by Gamecocks recently and considers them favorites right now instead of Tennessee and Charlotte.

“I was surprised by the offer from South Carolina,” said Gaston. “They have been recruiting me since my last season. Coach Drew (Hughes) has been talking to me. Coach Beamer made the offer. I talked to him too. Coach Beamer said he really liked me. He needed a player that I like in the locker room, a security guard. And he likes the way I return to punts and kickoffs. “

Gaston said he was not ready to sign up this week because he just received important offers and needs more time to develop relationships.

“I’m just trying to get close to the coaches,” said Gaston. “Make sure everything is right and that you feel at home. I feel really good about South Carolina. They have shown a lot of love. I like them. They are standing out more because they communicate more with me. “

Gaston said it is possible for him to make a decision and a commitment before February.

Gaston was one of Alabama’s best security guards this season, with 98 tackles and five interceptions. He was chosen to play in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game.

Linebacker Trevin Wallace of Jessup, Georgia, retired from Boston College on November 29 and is now among the top four at USC, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Auburn.

The Gamecocks recruited Wallace under Will Muschamp, but did not catch him. They got a suspension with their withdrawal and a new head coach. Beamer was on the phone with him on Sunday.

“I hear a lot from Coach Beamer, a lot of people,” said Wallace. “He told me he was in Oklahoma and he knew that they held me in high regard. And now that he’s in South Carolina, he heard the same thing. Also, he spoke to me before and said that I am a good boy, I am humble, I have a good spirit and he said that wherever I go, I will be productive there. “

Wallace is very interested in the USC again with Beamer in charge. He is also talking to linebacker coach Rod Wilson and the two approached each other during the process.

“We have a great relationship,” said Wallace. “We talk a lot and sometimes it’s not even about football, it’s about life and humility. He said to stay humble, keep your head straight, study, get your diploma and the sky is the limit for you. “

It looks like this time Gamecocks will have a good chance of closing the deal with Wallace. And they have time, since he will only sign in February.

“They are moving up my list,” said Wallace. “When the last coach was fired, they went down because I didn’t know who would be there.”

Wallace is a four star at 247Sports Composite. He is classified as the No. 13 domestic linebacker nationally in the class.

Transfer possibilities to USC

USC may have some interest in former Illinois wide receiver Ricky Smalling. The Chicago native has not played this season and is on the transfer portal. In his career with Illini, he had 88 receptions for 1,141 yards with eight touchdowns.

USC has some interest in Georgia Tech’s wide receiver Ahmarean Brown. Tampa, Florida’s second year picked up 32 passes for 579 yards with eight touchdowns in two seasons with Tech. The USF is also interested.

USC is among those listed here as having an interest in former Alabama and ECU DB Nigel Knott.

Myrtle Beach receiver to reveal decision on Friday

Adam Randall, a Class 2022 wide receiver in Myrtle Beach, will make his college appointment announcement on Friday.

He said he made his decision from the Clemson, USC, Oregon and Tennessee group. Randall said that only the school he chose knows about his decision.

“Their reaction was one of excitement because they have been recruiting me for a long time,” said Randall. “They are really excited that I have a big impact on their program. My reasoning was that this school showed me a lot of love from the beginning. I created a real connection with the coaches there. …

“They are really good at receiving and throwing the ball. They would put me in different positions because they think I have the talent to play on and off the slot machine, which is what I mainly play.

Randall developed a strong relationship, in particular with the Clemson receiver coach, Tyler Grisham, who he learned to know through experiences in Clemson fields.

This season Randall ended with 46 receptions for 1,009 yards and nine touchdowns, despite playing with a high ankle sprain during the playoffs. He is classified as a four star in 247Sports Composite and the No. 22 receiver in class 2022. He is ranked 5th among South Carolina candidates for 2022. Randall plans to sign in December 2021 and enroll in college in January 2022.
