COLOMBIA, SC – Even before Mike Bobo left for the same job in Auburn, South Carolina fans were not so excited about Shane Beamer’s first choice for offensive coordinator. This is one of the conclusions of a survey of Gamecocks fans that The Athletic conducted this month, while the South Carolina football program transitions from the Will Muschamp era to Beamer’s management.
Bobo was identified as Beamer’s best hire by only 5.2% of respondents in the survey, which started before Bobo abruptly left the technical team. Bobo was the eighth most popular answer on the list, behind Marcus Satterfield, who was hired to be Bobo’s replacement and was chosen by 9.3% of respondents.
The most popular choice was wide receiver coach Justin Stepp, who is not only the only coach hired from another Power 5 school, but is also a South Carolina native and played football at school less than an hour away …
