South Carolina families, educators highlight the importance of primary and secondary education options

COLUMBIA, SC, January 15, 2021 / PRNewswire / – In the middle of an academic year like no other, South Carolina families and educators are preparing to safely highlight education options during School Choice Week 2021.

South Carolina residents are hosting 720 virtual or home celebrations during the week, including a statewide virtual school fair in Wednesday, January 27.

Held annually since 2011, School Choice Week is the largest celebration of educational choice in America. Although the week is usually full of large face-to-face events, advocates of school choice have adapted to this year’s health and safety protocols, opting for gymkhanas, virtual information sessions and exhibitions, online contests, drive-in film shows and More .

Across the country, more than two dozen iconic landmarks and remarkable buildings from the United States will be illuminated in special colors to mark the week. Inside South Carolina, the Governor’s Mansion will be lit for the entire week from January 24th to 30th. SkyWheel in Myrtle Beach will also light up in yellow and red from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm in January 24.

In addition, governor Henry McMaster issued an official proclamation recognizing January 24th to 30th like South Carolina School Choice Week.

Inside South Carolina, there are a variety of educational options to attend, including: traditional public schools with open enrollment at the discretion of each district, charter schools, magnetic schools, online academies, private schools and home education. Inside South Carolina, students with disabilities may qualify for a state scholarship program.

South Carolina families will raise awareness of these choices in their virtual celebrations, which make up some of the more than 33,000 planned across the country to highlight K-12 education options.
