South Carolina Deputy Sheriff William Kimbro honored as best man after saving the life of a 12-day-old baby

A terrible moment turned into a lifelong bond between a woman, her baby and a South Carolina deputy sheriff.

Last June, deputy William Kimbro stopped a car for speeding and found a desperate mother inside.

The woman’s 12-day-old baby did not breathe.

Kimbro’s body camera captured the tense moments as he performed CPR to save live.

“Come on, baby. Cry for me. Cry for me. Come on, open those eyes, dear. There you go,” Kimbro heard himself saying. “I’m worried about her, because she starts to breathe and then stops. And then she starts and then stops.”

Baby Ryleigh has made a full recovery, but that’s not the end of the story.

Now, a year after that fateful day, Mr Kimbro was invited to his first birthday and he had a special surprise written on a card.

“My jaw dropped and I had an ugly face,” said Kimbro

Deputy Kimbro was asked to be Ryleigh’s godfather through a message hidden on a card.

“I finally managed to cross it out, it said ‘you’ll be my best man’ and I said ‘absolutely’,” recalled Kimbro.

“I want him to feel that we are a family, that we are a family. I felt I had to give him a title, let him know, ‘hey, thank you, thank you very much,'” said Ryleigh’s mother.

Ryleigh’s mother says that Chief Kimbro will be part of his heart forever.
