South Carolina Commit and Three Star Wide Receiver O’Mega Blake (Rock Hill, SC / South Pointe) changed his thinking. Instead of waiting until February to sign his letter of intent, he will not wait more than 48 hours and will sign at 10 am on Wednesday, the first day of the early subscription period.
According to Hale McGranahan’s report on TheBigSpur.com on Monday morning, Blake will be one of six committed Class 2021 recruits who signed with Gamecocks during their December hiring period.
Classified as the 102nd wide receiver in the country and the ninth best candidate in the state of South Carolina by 247Sports Composite, Blake made a commitment to South Carolina on June 22, 2020. He did not waver in his commitment despite the coach’s resignation Will Muschamp and the hiring of Shane Beamer, who has yet to announce any changes or hiring staff.
Over nine games as a senior, Blake was responsible for 1,272 total attack yards and 12 touchdowns.
“Everything went well overall, but I was not satisfied with the losses we suffered (this season),” Blake told McGranahan in early December. “But we know that we should play next weekend. … Unfortunately, we can’t. There is work that needs to be done for the youngest, but I know that my brothers are going to take care of business and take care of it, so that they can get it in the next year. “
Blake, who wanted to graduate from South Pointe this month, cannot be one of the first applicants, because the first semester only ends in February.
“It hurts, because I can’t leave early, but again, it’s giving me time to prepare,” said Blake. “What I do now affects when I sign up on campus.”
TheBigSpur’s JC Shurburtt wrote the following on Blake when he recently broke Carolina’s list of 10 members.
“(Blake) is a 1.8m tall, 190-pound athlete that many in Palmetto state consider to have an elite advantage. An Atlantic Coast Conference program trying to get him out of Gamecocks has placed him at the top of the board as a receiver for almost the entire cycle.
“Blake brings athletics, explosiveness and speed to the table and he comes from a school that has produced many of Carolina’s best players this decade. Blake’s latest public comments have indicated a wait-and-see approach after the coach change, but Carolina must still feel good about your position. “
