South Carolina child dies after positive meth test, woman accused of murder

SUMTER COUNTY, SC (WVLT / WIS) – A 23-year-old woman from South Carolina was arrested and charged with child abuse homicide after her six-month-old son died.

The WIS reported that the suspect, Tricia Yazici, was arrested on January 10 after an incident in October 2020.

Sumter County sheriff’s office said the baby tested positive for meth on October 19 and died that day. Authorities said an autopsy was carried out and found that the child died from Yazici’s drug use.

“It is tragic that the defendant’s drug abuse led to the death of his son,” said Sheriff Anthony Dennis. “We know that drug use can destroy a life, but it is even more painful to know that a child’s life is lost because of it.”

WIS reported that the link was denied to Yacizi.
