South Carolina basketball: Kentucky game being postponed

South Carolina basketball will miss its SEC scheduled debut.

South Carolina will lose a fourth consecutive game, the school announced earlier this week, as COVID’s problems inside the Gamecock locker room have forced the team to postpone or cancel each of their fights since December 5.

The latest postponement involves the opening of the Gamecocks’ Southeastern Conference, as a December 29 meeting with the Kentucky Wildcats is the last competition to be erased from the schedule. There is no certainty as to when Gamecocks will be able to make the game.

South Carolina has already lost consecutive fights at Wofford, Clemson and South Carolina State schools, with Wildcats now making the list. The fights with Wofford and the state of South Carolina will not be compensated, but the Gamecocks are actively trying to reschedule the Kentucky and Clemson meetings.

Gamecocks started 1-2, having lost games to Liberty and Houston, but managed to win Tulsa at the Hall of Fame Classic in November. Second-year guard Jermaine Couisnard is leading the team with 13.3 points per dispute. AJ Lawson also averages double digits, scoring 11.3 points per game.

The list is full of experienced players on the backcourt and had aspirations to compete for a SEC title and return to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2017. Hopefully, Frank Martin and company may be back on the court soon, however there was none a set schedule for the return of South Carolina.

The next showdown on the schedule is a meeting with Florida A&M on January 2nd.
