South Carolina baseball, led by Wes Clarke, got off to a great start – The Athletic

COLUMBIA, SC – The South Carolina baseball team finds itself in a familiar position after the first hot weekend of the year on the campus of the state’s main university.

“I think it was very important for our fans and this is important for us, but there is still a long time to go,” said fourth year coach Mark Kingston on Sunday after Gamecocks number 14 defeated rival Clemson for second consecutive day.

The baseball team has been the school’s most successful program since 1974, when former New York Yankee Bobby Richardson took the team to its first NCAA tournament. When the American football and male basketball teams Gamecocks leave the fan base wanting – which has been happening quite often in the past century – the baseball team is usually there at the end of the school year to cheer up spirits.
