South Carolina approves salaries for football assistants

The South Carolina Board of Trustees approved more than $ 4.1 million in salaries for eight assistant coaches on football coach Shane Beamer’s first team.

The panel approved the deals on Monday for four remnants of the dismissed coach Will Muschamp’s team and four newcomers to Gamecocks.

Beamer, a former South Carolina assistant and the son of former Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer, was hired by the Gamecocks last month after the team ended a 2-8 season.

Mike Bobo, the offensive coordinator and coach of defenders who served as interim coach after Muschamp’s resignation in November, had his contract extended for one year until the 2022 season with his current salary of $ 1.2 million a year.

Will Friend, who was the coach of Tennessee’s offensive line, will earn $ 700,000 a year – most of all new hires – for the same job in South Carolina. His business also runs until 2022.

Among the other newcomers, former Ball State coach Pete Lembo will earn $ 450,000 a year as a technical assistant and coach for special teams. Lembo’s business is for three seasons until 2023.

The receiver’s trainer, Justin Stepp, who held that position in Arkansas, will earn $ 460,000 a year until 2022.

Coach Erik Kimrey will earn $ 200,000 per season until 2022.

Beamer’s three other assistants, defensive coach Tracy Rocker, coach of external linebackers Mike Peterson and coach of running backs Des Kitchings had their business extended for another year until 2022.

Rocker will earn $ 525,000 a year, while Peterson and Kitchings will earn $ 300,000 each per season.

Beamer is still looking for two more coaches to complete his team of 10, including a defensive coordinator.
