South Carolina approves $ 300 weekly increase in unemployment pay

COLUMBIA, SC (WRDW / WAGT) – The South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce received approval after requesting additional funds to help unemployed residents.

Late Tuesday afternoon, the Federal Emergency Management Agency notified the state that it had been approved for Lost Salary Assistance.

The agency notified Governor Henry McMaster and his team about the announcement.

The money will provide $ 300 in addition to the weekly claimants benefit amount. For each week that an eligible claimant receives at least $ 100 in state or federal unemployment benefits, the payment will add $ 300.

DEW is working with the supplier to update the requirements for the new program on the MyBenefits portal, which may take two to three weeks to implement.
