- The security guard asked her to wear a mask, but she claimed she hadn’t
- She was threatened with removal from the store before removing the thong to wear
This is the bizarre moment when a shopper took off her panties to use as a temporary mask after being warned by officials that she would not be served without it.
The unnamed woman was filmed at a Pick n Pay supermarket in South Africa after a security guard asked her to put on a face mask.
She claimed she didn’t have it, but after threatening to take her out of the supermarket, the woman reached under her dress and took off her thong to use instead.
In the clip, the woman can be seen standing in a long Paisley print dress and sandals while waiting in line at the checkout.
A female security guard walks slowly towards her before the pair exchange words.
Suddenly, the dissatisfied customer bends down and reaches for her dress to reach for her panties.
She pulls it off before removing the black strap from her feet and placing it over her face.
Other buyers are surprised when someone yells, ‘What’s going on?’
The confusion continues as the buyer raises his thumb in the direction of the guards and asks, ‘Happy?’

The guard starts talking over the radio to someone while the next customer in line enters the debate.
She swings her arms to the side and says, ‘Well, personally I think it’s acceptable, it’s a mask …
– And frankly, I think the bacteria on your panties is less than on the mask.
She repeats herself again before she starts to clap and says, ‘Very well. Brillant.’
But not everyone shared the same opinion when criticizing the woman for not following the rules of the facial mask in the first place.

Since then, the video has gone viral on Facebook, where a user wrote: ‘Stay home and shop online if you don’t like the idea of wearing a mask.’
Another internet user commented: ‘It makes me sick. She is aware of the law worldwide. We have a serious virus and (she thinks) a floss will save her …
‘Come, grow up. What should your family think? ‘
In December 2020, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasized that not wearing a face mask in public was a crime.
He said: ‘A person who does not wear a mask can be arrested and prosecuted.
‘When they are convicted, they will be punished with a fine or imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or both a fine and imprisonment.’
