Sources – Several teams contacted the New York Jets about Sam Darnold

At a time when negotiations for quarterbacks across the league have heated up, several teams have contacted the New York Jets and expressed interest in negotiating for former general choice number 3 Sam Darnold, according to league sources.

The Jets did not refuse the calls, according to the sources, but neither did they make any final, firm decisions as a defender as to which direction they want or are ready to go.

They could negotiate with Darnold, use the compensation they would receive in exchange for another quarterback, or draft a quarterback with the second overall choice. All options are being explored and available, according to a league source.

Contacted on Saturday, the Jets did not confirm whether they had received commercial calls about Darnold. Other sources, however, said yes.

Looking back at the first quarterback deal last weekend, one should take a look at the potential market for Darnold.

The teams that made calls to Matthew Stafford, who traded from Detroit to the Los Angeles Rams last weekend, included the Washington Football Team, Indianapolis Colts, Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers, Chicago Bears and others.

The Jets are not yet ready to make a negotiation and are still sifting through what is the best path to be followed by the organization. But with Stafford back in Los Angeles and the Eagles approaching a deal for Carson Wentz, the Jets shouldn’t be far behind in their own quarterback’s decision, which will have ramifications throughout the league.
