Trent Williams and the San Francisco 49ers have reached a six-year deal with $ 138 million that will make him the highest-paid offensive striker in NFL history, ESPN sources Dianna Russini said.
The deal, which closed on Wednesday morning, has a guaranteed $ 55.1 million and includes a $ 30.1 million signing bonus, sources said to Russini.
The Niners are also seeking an agreement with the free agent center Alex Mack, a source told Russini.
The 49ers switched to Williams on the third day of the 2020 NFL draft, sending a selection from the fifth round and a choice of the third round of 2021 to the Washington Football Team.
Upon joining Niners, they agreed to add a clause to their contract which meant that they could not book it this offseason. Williams, 32, went on to stabilize the left tackle position in place of retiree Joe Staley, starting 14 games and returning to his former Pro Bowl form in the process.
All of this came back from Williams’ first season, after being out of 2019 while he was involved in a dispute with Washington over the treatment of his injury problems and his contract.
At the end of the season, Williams said he hoped to sign again with San Francisco, but also acknowledged that he wanted to see what a debut tackle could achieve in the open market, as players in his position of this caliber rarely make it this far in free agency.
Since joining the league as the fourth overall choice in the 2010 NFL draft, Williams has started 133 games, winning eight Pro Bowl spots and a second All Pro team in 2015.
