ESPN + is the latest streaming service to get a price increase.
The sports service currently costs $ 50 a year when subscribers opt for annual rather than monthly billing. But as of January 8, that price will jump to $ 60 a year for new customers, the company confirmed to Gizmodo on Wednesday. The good news for existing subscribers is that they will receive a few more months of the current rate before they begin to see the charge in their accounts. A spokesman said the subscription cost for these users will remain the same “until at least March 2”.
But this is not the only increase in fees that subscribers will see on the service. The price of UFC pay-per-view events will also jump from the current cost of $ 65 to $ 70.
ESPN + previously increased your monthly subscription cost for new subscriptions of $ 5 to $ 6 earlier this year. Subscribers who pay for the service monthly will not be affected by the annual subscription change, said an ESPN + spokesman, and price changes will not affect the price of the Disney + package (for now, at least).
This marks the first annual price increase for ESPN + since its launch in 2018. The spokesman said the highest annual cost to subscribers comes as the service is Expanding programming for live events, original content, editorial initiatives and studio programming.
The news also comes in the middle price changes for sister sites of the service. Hulu with live TV recently got a price increaseand Disney + recently announced it would increase the cost of monthly subscription to your service by $ 1 in March next year (from $ 7 to $ 8 monthly), while your annual subscription plan will increase by an additional $ 10 (from $ 70 to $ 80 annually). At that time, the package that includes ESPN +, Disney + and Hulu supported by ads will also increase a dollar to $ 14 a month.
G / O Media can receive a commission
Is this unexpected? Well no. Good services cannot be cheap forever. But with all other walking their prices also, it doesn’t make the blow to our portfolios hurt less.
