Although we don’t find boot animation often, it’s still part of the main Android experience and needs to be combined with broader design options. A subtle adjustment, but with Android 10, even the boot screen of Pixel phones gained a dark background that would be used automatically if the system theme was set to dark mode. From now on, it may not circulate between the two modes.
A new commit sent to the Android Source Project suggests that this behavior is now being adjusted. While the first boot (initial setup or after a factory reset) will make use of the traditional boot screen with a white background, all subsequent ones will be in dark mode.
The reason for this change is that scheduled updates, which take place at night and require a restart, will no longer bother users. We are not sure when this commit will be merged and implemented on Pixel phones, but the owners will no longer have control over the theme of the boot animation when it happens.
Although small, this development is appreciated, but I think Google could go even further and use a dark background for the initial startup to cover anyone who goes through the setup process at night.
