Sony’s first PlayStation 5 Restock in 2021 is sold

UPDATE (1/15/21, 12:32 PM EST): Times are tough for those still struggling to get their hands on Sony’s next generation PlayStation 5. On January 14, the Sony Rewards Twitter account announced a limited replenishment of the PS5 for the next day, generating a lot of excitement among fans who crave the noisy console. True to its word, the account issued a link to Sony’s website shortly before noon, granting those who clicked access to a small number of consoles, which came with an extra controller.

Unsurprisingly, consoles sold out instantly. Surprisingly, PlayStation 5 consoles could only be purchased by exchanging Sony Rewards points – appropriate given the bill that caused the refueling, but an unusual obstacle, however.

Weighing an imposing sum of 56,998 points and limited to one unit per member, Sony may have anticipated that the consoles would last longer than they did, considering the clock on the landing page is still decreasing by 15 hours, despite all consoles having gone. If nothing else, the resounding demand is a demonstration of a restricted supply, unable to satisfy the immense demand.

ORIGINAL STORY (1/14/21, 10:40 PM): For those who weren’t lucky enough to get a PlayStation 5 last year, the Sony Rewards division has now announced the first replenishment of the next generation console for 2021.

In addition to being the first refueling of the year, it also serves as the first real refueling of the PS5 seen since its initial launch that dominated the gaming world. Announced on Sony Rewards Twitter account, the post does not reveal any details, but notes that a post at a later date will reveal inventory replenishment information.
