Paramount has announced that everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog will return to the screens next year. According to a new teaser trailer, Paramount will release Sonic the Hedgehog 2 on April 8, 2022.
The teaser is nothing to surprise fans of the first Sonic movie. The title Sonic the Hedgehog appears on the screen just before he passes it in a blue blur adding a “2” that happens to have two very visible tails. Although this obviously doesn’t tell us much about the plot of the film, it does configure the appearance of Tails that was provoked at the end of the first film.
The other loose thread is Doctor Robotnik. At the end of the first film, Sonic’s villain wakes up on a strange alien planet full of mushrooms that have driven him crazier and turned into the most recognizable video game version of himself. Meanwhile, Tails appeared from a portal in the sky ready to find Sonic somewhere on Earth. All of these extra taunts mean that the Sonic sequel could feature some of the strangest elements in the series and more video game elements, where the first film focused mainly on Sonic’s relationship with Earth and Tom, the main human character in the film.
The original Sonic the Hedgehog The film was released in early 2020 and – thanks to a theatrical screening that was unaffected by COVID-19, and an entire year of delayed films – became one of the most successful theatrical releases of the year.
