Some press for teachers’ priority in the next wave of SC vaccinations

COLOMBIA, SC (WRDW / WAGT) – As it stands, teachers will not have priority for coronavirus vaccine appointments when South Carolina moves on to the next phase of distribution.

This is driving educators back against Governor Henry McMaster, asking him to prioritize teachers.

“It just doesn’t make sense for the governor to give executive orders and ask to open schools and then prioritize vaccination for school staff,” said Mike Cafaro, a member of the Georgetown County School Board.

“It is disappointing, but it is not very surprising that we would not see priority teachers.”

Some school leaders say that while they would like to see teachers prioritized, they are not sure that this would make schools safe instantly, as students will not be vaccinated.
