Some CenterPoint customers say they received a $ 200,000 bill; company says it’s a mistake

HOUSTON – Some CenterPoint Energy customers contacted KPRC 2 on Thursday and said they received an account for more than $ 200,000.

Everyone who contacted KPRC 2 said they received an account for the same amount – $ 202,102.16.

In a statement, CenterPoint employees said the power outages caused a technical problem that generated incorrect account notification emails that were sent to about 27,000 customers in the Houston area.

“Customers who have received an email notification showing an amount owed of $ 202,102.16 for natural gas, should disregard and not pay, as they do not owe that amount,” the authorities said in the statement.

The authorities said the error was made only in the email notification and was not a billing error. They said that customers should log into their accounts to see the current amount due.
