Snow-trapped health professionals drive from car to car to give COVID vax

These health professionals remained calm.

A medical team in Oregon took action after being trapped in a snowstorm with doses of the COVID-19 vaccine that were about to expire – and used the jabs, going from car to car to inject other arrested drivers.

The “makeshift clinic” happened after 20 health workers were stopped in traffic on Highway 199, which was full of snow, near Hayes Hill, the Josephine County Department of Public Health said on Tuesday.

The group had just finished a mass vaccination event against coronavirus at a local school and had six doses left to administer at the end of the day.

Other recipients of the injections were identified, but “the snow meant the doses would not reach them before they expired,” said the health department on Facebook.

Not wanting them to go to waste, the team went from vehicle to vehicle, offering people the chance to get the vaccine, with a county ambulance on hand for safety.

All six doses were administered, including to an employee of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Office who arrived too late for the vaccination clinic and ended up being stuck with the others.

Josephine County Public Health Director Mike Weber said it was “one of the coolest operations” he was a part of.
