Snow blowers are called due to the risk of amputation

And if done by Toro, it’s time to check your model number.

The company is recalling some 6,700 Toro Power Max 826 OHAE snowblowers with model number 37802 due to an amputation risk, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Snow blowers were sold nationwide and online by Home Depot, Ace Hardware and authorized Toro dealers between November 2020 and January 2021 for about $ 1,200.

What is the problem?

It has to do with the auger – that is, the corkscrew-shaped rotating device that collects snow and throws it through the discharge chute.

Toro snow blowers have drills that can fail to disengage when the control handle is released – meaning that the drill may not stop turning when it should.

This represents a greater risk of injury and amputation, says the company.

“The company has received five incident reports related to the worm’s failure to disengage when the control lever is released,” wrote Toro. “No injuries were reported.”
