Snow accumulated on the subway tracks holds passengers for more than an hour

Straphangers were trapped in a Q train for almost 90 minutes on Monday afternoon due to snow on the above-ground subway tracks in Brooklyn, a passenger told the Post.

“We are sitting between Parkside and Prospect Park for an hour and 20 minutes now. There is no heating on the train, there are 3 people without masks, without any ventilation, ”said Q passenger Rachel Turner, shortly after 3:30 pm

“About 30 minutes ago, we were told that the snow had accumulated too much to move forward and that we had obtained permission to return to Parkside to descend, but there has been no news from anyone since.”

Confirmed transit officials the service interruption – which interrupted the last Q train scheduled to cross the Manhattan bridge before the subways closed – on Twitter, saying that they needed to clear the “accumulated snow”.

The train briefly lost power during the wait, the MTA confirmed – leaving Turner and other frigids. The train and its passengers were eventually redirected back to Parkside Avenue station, Turner said.

She finally got off the train at 15:38

With the subways out of operation as of 2 pm, Turner walked 0.6 miles to access the next train bound for Manhattan.

An MTA spokesman later blamed the delay on “equipment that obstructs snow on roads”. An investigation continued in progress.

“This was an isolated incident on an exceptionally severe day, and we apologize to our customers for what was a frustrating and disconcerting delay,” said MTA representative Shams Tarek in a statement.

“Preliminary findings are that energy was lost for a period during the incident, which was related to snow-clogging equipment on the runways.”
