‘SNL’ attacks Cuomo, Newsom, Whitmer in the outline of the coronavirus game show hosted in Fauci

“Saturday Night Live” mocked Andrew Cuomo of New York for the second weekend in a row – this time with fellow Democrats Gavin Newsom of California and Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan also satirizing.

The three governors (played by “SNL” cast members) served as judges on an ethically questionable game show, hosted by Dr. Anthony Fauci, called “So you think you can get the vaccine?”

Cuomo (Pete Davidson) was introduced as “currently under fire for messing with old and dead people and also the kind of sexual harassment claims that make you say, ‘Yes, I can see that.'”

The real Cuomo has been involved in several scandals recently: he was accused of harassment by two former aides and of underestimating deaths from pandemics in nursing homes.

Newsom (Alex Moffat), who faces a recall effort, was also disparagingly described as “hated by everyone in California, except for those 10 people he had dinner with in Napa that time”.

He described the situation of the coronavirus in its state as “white teeth, rigid bodies, very bad COVID”.

Whitmer (Cecily Strong) joined the others while Fauci (Kate McKinnon) explained the idea behind the game show.

“The vaccine should not be a competition, but Americans will only want to get it if it means that someone else cannot,” explained Fauci before presenting a series of competitors who clearly would not qualify.

One woman claimed she was an “essential” worker because she was doing IT for the spicy site OnlyFans and had herpes, while another pretended to be an old woman because she wanted to be with a guy who just got out of a relationship.

Vaccines were denied, but Fauci promised consolation awards to the losers, like a Pfizer visor and, because it rhymes with vaccine, “Maxine”, a “grumpy” cartoon character from Hallmark greeting cards.

Governors also had the opportunity to explain who is an essential worker in their respective states.

Newsom said that California is immunizing “police officers, hospital workers, neuropaths and mediums”; Whitmer said that Michigan was giving it to “fishermen, truckers and hunters”; and Cuomo said, “tough guys, smart guys, rich guys and five guys” in New York could roll up their sleeves for the injection.

American Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas (Aidy Bryant), also joined the show as a competitor, but he seemed to be struggling to showcase his stand-up comedy talents rather than trying to get the vaccine.

“It’s great to be back in New York City,” said the senator, redoing the comedy routine of his appearance at CPAC this week. “Sorry, my arms are tired because I just got back from Cancún, Mexico.”

The real Cruz made a similar joke at the Orlando, Fla. Conference, to make light of his ill-timed trip to a sunny resort amid his state’s winter crisis.

In the end, governors were willing to give the vaccine to an 85-year-old competitor who described himself as the “most proud grandfather in the world”.

But it didn’t work out because he was unable to apply online – or, as he called it, “on what?” – and he didn’t think he could find a young man to “click on update” for the necessary “three consecutive days”.

“But if you feel sick,” Cuomo of Davidson advised the old man, “make sure you leave the nursing home and go to the hospital. Wink.”
