This 1999 release starts with 18 fighters to choose from, and there are eight more characters to unlock. In terms of modes, there is individual battle, tag and team.

You will enter the fight when this pocket version of SNK vs. Capcom reach the Switch eShop? Tell us below.

Original Story [Fri 22nd Jan, 2021 10:00 GMT]: In the 90s, the simple notion of Capcom and SNK working together was as unlikely as Sega and Nintendo dropping their weapons and making friends (as if that were going to happen, right?!). So when these two great fighting games announced a series of crossover games at the end of the decade, it caused quite a stir.

We get Capcom vs. SNK: Millennium Fight 2000 on Dreamcast, next to SNK vs. Capcom: Card Fighter’s Clash on Neo Geo Pocket Color. Beside that, we also have SNK vs. Capcom: departure of the millennium on the SNK handheld – arguably one of the best portable one-on-one fighters ever made. This collaboration would also give us Capcom vs. SNK 2 Dreamcast (later transferred to PS2, GameCube and Xbox) and SNK vs. Capcom Choas on Neo Geo, as well as the rather disappointing SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS shortly after.

As the name of this sub-series suggests, each game featured characters from the respective franchises belonging to these two Japanese giants. So the Street Fighter squad clashed with the King of Fighters stars – that sort of thing. Match of the Millennium took things to the next level and even included names like Arthur’s Ghosts’ n Goblins in your own mini-game. Interestingly, the title Neo Geo Pocket Color can connect to Dreamcast Capcom vs. SNK via a special link cable, allowing you to unlock characters by earning points when playing on the go.

According to the South Korean classification board, SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium is going to Switch. The game was recently rated for release in that region – a pretty solid indication that a game is in the air. This will likely be part of SNK’s current effort to release several of its most notable Neo Geo Pocket Color titles on the Switch; we already had SNK Gals Fighters, Samurai Shodown II, The last blade: beyond fate and Fatal Fury First contact.

What makes this new release remarkable is that it is an indication that SNK and Capcom are willing to work together again. Although SNK developed and published this particular game, it contains Capcom’s IP, so we would assume that a new agreement would have to be signed for this relaunch to take place.

We could see other titles in the Capcom Vs. SNK launched on modern platforms? Or maybe the two companies are working on a brand new crossover launch?

Thanks to Greatsong for the tip!
