Scouts

North Carolina’s Central Council Stanly district, Boy Scouts of America, won two major awards presented at the council’s 26th annual recognition banquet.

Stanly Scouter Robert Cliff Hinkle Jr. of Badin received the Silver Beaver award, the highest honor given to an adult volunteer.

Stanly District won the JJ Barnhardt Trophy for Members and the Ten Scouting Tests Trophy. They were accepted by Luther A. Adams, district president in 1966, James W. Morgan, assistant district commissioner, and Charles C. Riddle, district scout executive.

Morehead Bag

Two Albemarle Senior High students have been approved as district nominees for the John M. Morehead scholarships from the University of North Carolina.

The announcement came from the Morehead Foundation in Chapel Hill that Tom Webb and Dane Perry were among the six District VII nominees.

YMCA

William A. Blackmon of Darlington, South Carolina, accepted a position at the Wiscassett Memorial YMCA as assistant physical director and water director.

Salaries and prices

A request from Washington froze wages and prices. A price increase in recent months, due at least in part to the Korean situation, prompted government action. Prices soared to the highest point ever recorded in the country.
