Smith predicts 40 times for South Carolina’s professional day

Shi Smith was the fastest Gamecocks football player in South Carolina over his career.

The speedy wide receiver will arrive at Pro Day with plans for a quick 40-yard run. Smith, who has spent the past few months training in Phoenix, will have a chance to show his steering wheel to NFL scouts on Wednesday.

“My 40-team, probably like a 4.39, 4.41 – somewhere in that range,” said Smith.

Smith picked up 174 passes for 2,204 yards and 13 touchdowns during his four-year career in South Carolina. He finished fourth in school history in receptions, behind Bryan Edwards, Kenny McKinley and Alshon Jeffery. Smith is also in eighth place in his backyard career.

One of the best players during training leading up to Reese’s Senior Bowl, Smith has since received an invitation to the NFL Combine. On Tuesday, he spoke to reporters about his future in the NFL, among other things that preceded the draft, which begins on April 29 and ends on May 1.
