COLOMBIA, SC – A small plane crashed on Wednesday in a neighborhood near an airport in the capital of South Carolina during a dense fog alert, officials said.
The plane crashed just before 11 am, about a kilometer from Jim Hamilton-LB Owens Airport, which operates non-commercial planes in Columbia, officials said.
There was no immediate word on death or injury.
Firefighters and rescue workers are at the scene and federal investigators have been notified, the Columbia Police said in a statement.
The fog reduced visibility around the airport to 400 meters at the time of the accident, according to data from the National Meteorological Service.
