SLO County reports 242 new COVID-19 cases, 1 additional death

San Luis Obispo County added 242 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the county total to 9,303 confirmed cases on December 23.

The number of deaths attributed to COVID-19 in San Luis Obispo County has increased by one to 66 deaths. Health officials say the person who died was 90 years old.

Forty-four people are hospitalized, including six patients who are in the ICU. Another 2,213 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,962 people have recovered.

According to the COVID-19 online panel from the State of California, there are currently 23 ICU beds available in San Luis Obispo County.

  • Los Osos – 182
  • Morro Bay – 174
  • Pismo Beach – 143
  • Shandon – 84
  • Santa Margarita – 77
  • Atascadero State Hospital (patients) – 76
  • Cambria – 66
  • Creston – 41
  • Cayucos – 37
  • Avila Beach – 13
  • San Simeon – 8

The location of 41 additional cases is under investigation and another 12 are listed as “others”, which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Department of Public Health is not identifying these locations.

The testing sites of the COVID-19 community are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
