SLO County reports 151 new COVID-19 cases, plus 1 death

San Luis Obispo County added 151 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, bringing the county total to 18,038 confirmed cases on February 2.

The number of COVID-19-related deaths in the county increased by one case to a total of 178 deaths.

Health officials say 51 people are hospitalized. Another 1,105 people are recovering at home and health officials say 16,673 people have recovered.

San Luis Obispo County reported that 19 of the 38 licensed and staffed ICU beds in the county are currently occupied. Eleven of them are taken by COVID-19 patients.

Updated reopening metrics were also released on Tuesday, and San Luis Obispo County remains solidly at the purple level.

Although the county meets the positivity rates needed to move to the next tier, the county’s adjusted case rate improved only slightly to 22.6 from 23.8 the previous week, still well above the 7% needed to move to the tier red.

To move to the next layer, the county must remain in the purple layer for at least three weeks and meet the state’s adjusted case rate and test positivity criteria.

The location of 68 additional cases is under investigation and another six are listed as “others”, which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Department of Public Health is not identifying these locations.

The testing sites of the COVID-19 community are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
