SLO County reports 127 new cases of COVID-19, plus 4 deaths

San Luis Obispo County is reporting the deaths of four more people who had COVID-19.

Public health officials say the patients were between 70 and 100 years old.

The county of San Luis Obispo had 140 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

The county also added 127 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the county total to 16,056 confirmed cases on January 20.

It is the lowest number of daily cases since the beginning of the year. At a news conference on Wednesday afternoon, SLO County Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said that although the county was beginning to see fewer new cases, they are still very high in compared to spring and summer.

She added that nearly a quarter of all county cases have occurred in the past 14 days.

Health officials say 55 people are hospitalized. Another 2,398 people are recovering at home and health officials say 13,429 people have recovered.

San Luis Obispo County reports that 18 of the 38 licensed and staffed ICU beds in the county are currently occupied. Seven of them are taken by COVID-19 patients.

The location of 84 additional cases is under investigation and another nine are listed as “others”, which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Department of Public Health is not identifying these locations.

The testing sites of the COVID-19 community are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach and Nipomo.
