Slain San Antonio rapper remembered as ‘humble, quiet’ by colleagues

SANTO ANTÓNIO – A man who was found dead after being shot in his apartment in La Cantera is being remembered by those who knew him as a musician who stood out from everyone else.

Martell Derouen, also known by his stage name as Kordone, was considered unique, not only for his lyrical talents, but also for his exceptionally humble personality.

“Kordone was one of those who rose and shone, brighter than, you know, some of those who were in the room with him,” said Brian Mitchell, owner of Fyngermade Studio.

Mitchell thinks of better days recording in the studio with Derouen, 34, who he considered a friend.

“He was just a very subtle, quiet guy,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell said that although Derouen was Beyoncé’s cousin, he never used her name to benefit him.

“This is not even something he would mention to people. We would just have to put his BIOS in because it’s just, it’s worth putting it in there, but he doesn’t like things like that, ”said Mitchell.

On Tuesday, Derouen was found shot to death in his apartment at the Towers complex in La Cantera.

“I couldn’t believe it. I thought they had the wrong person, ”said Mitchell.

Now the search is for Sasha Skare, who the San Antonio police believe has shot Derouen. There is an active homicide warrant for Skare.

On an Instagram page, which appears to be operated by a 21-year-old, you can see people telling her to give herself up.

Although investigators are convinced that Derouen was a victim of murder, the question that so many ask is why?

“It’s like hurting a butterfly,” said Mitchell.

Derouen’s wife was too shaken to speak to KSAT12 on Thursday and asked for her privacy.

By text message, she echoed Mitchell’s feelings, saying that he “didn’t deserve this”.
