With Bethesda now officially part of the Xbox family, several games from the studio are now available on the Game Pass, and a good portion of them are receiving the FPS Boost treatment for Xbox Series X / S.
Speaking with Larry Hryb, also known as “Xbox’s Major Nelson”, (thanks, Wario64) Xbox communications manager Jeff Rubenstein has confirmed that five of the Bethesda games that have just been released on the Game Pass are being FPS Boosted for Microsoft’s next-generation consoles. These games are Dishonored Definitive Edition, Skyrim Special Edition, Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and Prey. Rubenstein also clarified that all five new FPS Boosted games will allow you to enable and disable the feature if you prefer to play them the way they were originally released, although I cannot imagine why you would like to do that.
There’s a lot going on with the Xbox right now, so you’d be forgiven if you missed the news about FPS Boost. That’s exactly what it sounds like: a new feature exclusive to the Xbox Series X / S that gives some older games, especially Xbox One era titles, a significant frame rate increase without the need for the original developers to do anything. This latest batch of Besthesda games joins a paltry list of titles that currently support the feature, but Microsoft has signaled that it plans to add FPS Boost to its Xbox game backlog every two weeks.
If you’re still wondering what Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda means for exclusivity, Xbox says “some” future Bethesda games will be exclusive to Xbox and PC.
