Skyblivion is a fan project to remake Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion on Skyrim Engine. The developer team shared an update.
Skyrim’s mods have practically become their own genre of games and entertainment in general. While some mods work to improving the game overall, other mods just want to watch Skyrim burn. However, mods are not the only thing that Skyrim has to offer; the game engine also spawned a series of remasters, remakes and even completely different games.
One of those ambitious fan projects is called Skyblivion, an attempt to remake Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion using the Skyrim engine. The group of developers works on a volunteer-based system and “is currently in the process of porting and rebuilding Cyrodiil along with all of his missions, locations and characters in Skyrim and Skyrim: Special Edition.” The team has been working on the project for almost 8 years.
In a recent development progress update, the Skyblivion team released a video showing the mod’s environments and the mission system. The video shows how impressive the environment looks. The showcase takes us on a journey through the Gerald Mountains, Gold Coast, Colovian Highlands, Heartlands, Nibenay Basin and Valley and Blackwood Swamp.
“Although it is not yet finished, we are getting closer and closer to filling the space of the outside world every day,” said the narrator in the video update. Oblivion is filled with 2663 interiors, and the development team plans to redo each one. The team working in these interiors is currently focused on all caves, mines and other dungeons. The team will not only be remaking these caves and dungeons as they were in Oblivion, Skyblivion will see them reworked to better suit the region and the corresponding mission.
One of the most impressive achievements of the volunteer development team is a customized tool, created to easily import Oblivion missions into the Skyrim engine; this was a big problem with previous builds. They also refined and made adjustments to the UI. There is no word from the team about when they hope to finish the project, but they “are finally seeing the end of the road”.
The developer team is also looking for volunteers to help with the Skyblivion project. If you would like to help them, you can register as a volunteer on here.
