The Philadelphia 76ers acted before the deadline by acquiring George Hill from the Oklahoma City Thunder in an effort to help strengthen the position of reserve guard. In the process, they moved some support men behind Joel Embiid and Dwight Howard.
The Sixers get the help they need with the addition of Hill, but now they must turn their attention to the takeover market, as they will try to add more depth to their list. They moved a valuable piece in Tony Bradley into the business to acquire Hill, so now President Daryl Morey will be looking to the procurement market to replace him.
“The procurement market is often a conversation about opportunity and function,” said Morey. “We probably have more opportunities in that big place, so I hope the purchase will be bigger, if we do at all. We need bigger ones. “
In Thursday’s victory over the Los Angeles Lakers, the Sixers had to wipe out different teams. They rolled with Mike Scott in the center, while also using Tobias Harris and Ben Simmons in 5th place at times.
“We feel good about Joel and Dwight,” added Morey. “Doc, if he wants to, can put exclusive lineups on the floor with Ben, Tobias and Mike Scott, so we feel good about where we are, but if a purchase happens, it is more likely to be big.”
Obviously, the negotiation deadline is over and there is no rush to make room now, but Morey and general manager Elton Brand will have some options to see when the time comes.
“Obviously, this is a lot of our work after the negotiation deadline,” concluded Morey. “It’s been a lot of our work, really at this point, some of the players that you can’t really get real feedback about, because it’s still early days. I feel very good that someone who thinks that Rivers’ coach will help us will be available, but it is too early to really give a lot of details about it, but we feel good about the procurement market right now. “
As for the Sixers, they are 3-0 to start their 6-game trip and will now try to keep it on Saturday against the Los Angeles Clippers.
