Sixers Bell Ringer: Sixers beat the Knicks in overtime.

Note: There is no traditional recap post for this game.

Sixers Bell Ringer season ranking:

Joel Embiid – 17
Tobias Harris – 9
Ben Simmons – 7
Milton Shake – 4
Matisse Thybulle – 2
Tyrese Maxey – 1
Dakota Mathias – 1
Furkan Korkmaz – 1

There are instant classics and then, as you want to call the 53 minutes of basketball that we just watched between the Philadelphia 76ers and the New York Knicks. In an absolute slog that saw two teams tie at 64 after three quarters, the Sixers led by three points with Tobias Harris on the foul line in the final seconds of the regulation. Unfortunately for all those who expected the game to end, Tobi missed both shots and Julius Randle somehow hit a corner 3 (hit the edge wide back to the glass and in) to tie up the game and keep basketball fans stuck in purgatory.

So the end of the extension was a hilarious image of the end of the regulation. With the Sixers losing by one, Shake Milton lost a drive, only for Harris to be pushed in the back for the offensive rebound. This time, Tobias would hit both free throws to put the Sixers back in front, and Julius Randle’s winning potential pitcher dropped in half before turning. The Sixers prevailed, 101-100, and we are going to select a Bell Ringer and then delete this game from memory coffers.

Danny Green: 11 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 5 steals, 3 blocks, 2 turns

Call it the Danny Green game “I am too valuable to negotiate on the deadline”. Tonight was an exceptional defensive performance by Danny Green, as you can imagine from his eight actions. He was encased in Immanuel Quickley in the first quarter and exhibited his continued mastery of the aid block next to the fabric by rejecting Julius Randle. But we’ve seen Green present great defensive statistics in a game before. What we didn’t see is Danny taking the ball out of the dribble and hitting a one-legged runner with 19 seconds left in the regulation to make a three-point game. Or him pretending to pump a man in his face and still let him fly long-range not once, but twice in overtime to give the Sixers the lead. Doc Rivers summed it up well after the game:

When the Knicks advanced in the middle of the third quarter, it was the Sixers’ seat unit that put the team back in the driver’s seat, and Shake was behind the wheel. He finished 9 out of 15 on the floor, scoring seven consecutive Sixers points at the end of the third quarter and the start of the fourth. The mid-range master hit his usual assortment of back steps and fadeaways, and also did a good job reaching the rim, particularly in a smooth reverse around kick blocker Mitchell Robinson in the fourth quarter. On a night when the Big Sixers’ cannons did not have an attack, Shake’s production was crucial.

Furkan Korkmaz: 12 points, 1 assist, 2 steals, 0 turnovers

Korkmaz was the featured player in the Sixers’ 15-0 series in the first quarter, which proved useful when the Knicks made their own 13-0 run to close the first half. Furkan hit three trebles in the opening period, while also playing strong defense with a couple of deflections, and returned the favor to Ben Simmons in all configurations this season by launching a perfect alley for Ben Simmons.

Matisse Thybulle: 6 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist, 2 blocks, 0 twists

I was surprised that Matisse only played 18 minutes in this competition. He had a couple of experienced locks on Alec Burks, recovering from pick-and-roll to swing the ex-Sixer from behind. On the offensive side, Thybulle held the kicks that were presented to him, finishing 2 of 5 behind the hoop, with both marks arriving in the fourth period. Matisse landed a great shot from the sideline with just two minutes left in the game, putting the Sixers in four points.
