Sir David Attenborough welcomed Joe Biden’s victory in the US presidential election and emphasized the importance of the United States in the fight against climate change.

Biden vowed to re-join the Paris climate deal on the first day of his presidency after Donald Trump controversially removed Washington from him.

The international agreement aims to contain global warming.

Sir David, a passionate environmental activist, said ‘of course’ that Biden’s victory in the November elections was good for the world, adding ‘how could I deny that?’

Speaking to the Radio Times, the beloved naturalist, 94, spoke about the US’s return to the climate change table.

He said: ‘It is of the greatest importance possible. The biggest power in the world and the biggest economic power in the world?

‘Of course, it is absolutely crucial that it is part of all these things and if we are to find a solution with international agreements, America’s presence is beyond measure.’

Sir David, who recently worked on the Netflix documentary, A Life On Our Planet, is an intrepid traveler and has made films around the world.

However, your flight days may be over. Asked if he was going to travel abroad again to film, he said ‘no, not a lot’.

Sir David added: ‘It is probably a fact of age, but I was finding that my heart was sinking deeper and deeper into my boots every time I boarded a plane and looked at that long line and thought,’ I’m going to stay here for another 24 hours. ‘

‘It didn’t make my heart beat faster with pleasure.’
