‘Simpsons’ writer Marc Wilmore dead at 57 years of COVID-19

The 10-time Primetime Emmy Award-nominated writer and producer Marc Wilmore died at age 57 after developing coronavirus complications.

“My sweet and sweet brother, Marc Edward Wilmore, passed away last night while battling COVID and other conditions that plagued him for many years,” Wilmore’s older brother and fellow comedian Larry Wilmore tweeted on Sunday. “My brother was the most kind, kind and funny angel I have ever met. I love you little brother. “

After graduating from Cal Poly Pomona, Wilmore began his career writing in the 1990s – and later as a cast member – on the sketch comedy program “In Living Color”. His writing there earned him his first Emmy nomination. After “In Living Color”, he became a writer for “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, as well as his brother Larry’s stop-motion sitcom “The PJs”.

Wilmore became an executive co-producer and writer for “The Simpsons”, as well as the animated series “F Is For Family”. His voice also appeared on an occasional basis from the programs he worked on, according to IMDB.

In response to Larry’s announcement of his death, other writers and comedians offered a show of love for the late Wilmore, for his kindness and his sense of humor.

“I’m sorry for your loss, Larry,” tweeted comedian Matt Oswalt. “I met Marc when we worked on the Tonight Show – we played golf, we laughed a lot. He was such a nice guy and will miss him. “

“My heart is with you, Larry,” answered actor David Alan Grier. “I remember sitting tenderly in their offices at ILC, throwing ideas back and forth. [Marc] he was the funniest and sweetest guy ever! May he rest in peace. “

“Another giant talent taken very early,” I wrote “Simpsons” writer Michael Price. “I had the privilege of working alongside Marc Wilmore on 3 shows (PJs, Simpsons, FIFF) for most of the past 23 years and he was the funniest person in all the rooms. And a wonderful man. He is irreplaceable. Rest in peace my friend. “
