With Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace advancing with the team, the next big question for the Bears in this off-season moves to the position of defender. Mostly, will the team bring back Mitchell Trubisky?
As it is, Nick Foles seems locked on the list after the Bears switched to him last season. But Trubisky is a free agent, and Chris Simms of Sunday Night Football thinks the Bears could hire him for a friendly contract with the team if they wanted to.
“Nobody is going to break doors to say, ‘We need to sign a $ 30 million contract with Mitchell Trubisky,'” Simms told NBC Sports Chicago.
But it doesn’t make much sense for the Bears to pay two QBs in reserve money, especially since they have limited space to make an initial move. Simms agrees that Trubisky is unlikely to return to Chicago, but I wouldn’t say that is the right decision.
“I’m not necessarily sure that I totally agree with that,” said Simms. “I totally understand. I just think Matt Nagy and Ryan Pace are going to exhaust all means to get someone there. “

So, if it wasn’t Trubisky, who was? Deshaun Watson is certainly the busiest option after reports have surfaced that he is unhappy in Houston. He is also easily the most talented.
“Watson is special, but you’re going to have to give the farm to get him,” said Simms. “This is something that you will have to be ready to do. You will probably have to give three draft choices from the first round, and maybe a few more things to go with it. It will be something of that nature to catch Deshaun Watson. I don’t imagine this happening, I don’t. “
The most likely ways for the Bears to find their next quarterback are the draft and the free agency. Whichever route the bears decide to take, they will also have many options.
“There are some options in the project,” said Simms. “I think there are five guys in that conversation from the first round. You are not going to catch Trevor Lawrence. More than likely, you won’t get Justin Fields unless you make a switch. Most likely you won’t get BYU guy Zack Wilson unless you trade or do something like that. Then there is the boy (Trey) Lance, from the state of North Dakota, and the boy from Alabama (Mac Jones). Do you want to go that way? This is something that the Bears will have to find out.
“So the route from the free agency, listen, we don’t know what’s going to be there yet. We do not know. But we know that there are some intriguing possibilities. Listen, if I’m taking over the regime in Atlanta, I’m playing Matt Ryan and Julio Jones. What should we hold on to just so that we can try to replace them in two or three years? Let’s just move on and get started. Detroit Lions, I would do the same thing with Matt Stafford and all that too. He could be there. The Jets with Sam Darnold. Jimmy Garoppolo may be available … there will be many ways to find a guy. “
