Metroidvania Games – where players explore large, labyrinthine 2D worlds – exist mainly in the indie game space, and some fantastic selected games are able to make the formula new. Which platforms are Hollow Knight: Song of Silk coming to?
Right now, Hollow Knight: Song of Silk is only for PC and Nintendo Switch. Considering that these are the platforms on which the first game was most successful, it makes sense for Team Cherry to choose to target those platforms first.
The original Hollow Knight ended up coming to PS4 and Xbox One, so it’s very likely that the Silksong can reach these systems, PS5 and Xbox Series X sometime in the future. For the launch, however, wait Hollow Knight: Song of Silk on the PC or Nintendo Switch.
What is the story of Hollow Knight: Song of Silk?
Hollow Knight: Song of Silk follows Hornet, a character that players encountered and fought in the first game after she ended up in the Kingdom of Pharloom. Players follow her as she ascends the kingdom to reach a citadel, and possibly what is beyond that. While the Cherry Team keeps many details of the story a secret, the developers told Edge Magazine that the Hornet is a much more defined protagonist.
“She is able to express her goals and intentions and stuff, which means that you can’t really hide your intentions or goals from the player,” said co-director William Pellen Border. “So there is still a lot of mystery, but the player is going really quickly – even if you haven’t played Hollow Knight – to get a basic idea of who Hornet is, his attitude and his initial goals.”
Which is Hollow Knight: Song of Silk gameplay like?
Like the first game, Hollow Knight: Song of Silk is a Metroidvania that presents an expansive world for players to explore. Players will complete missions and gain new skills throughout the adventure, which will not only embody the Hornet’s set of moves, but will also open up new areas. While Silksong similar to the first game in that sense, Team Cherry emphasizes the fact that the Hornet’s size and skills really make the game look quite different.
The developers explained to Border magazine that “Hornet being taller changes everything” as she moves faster, jumps higher, blanket and climbs on ledges. Hornet also depends more on physical attacks and combat skills than on the magic with which players were comfortable in the first game. Hornet can also heal with an ability called Bind, although that ability is slow to use.
The Hornet also uses shell fragments from enemies she killed to create tools to help her fight. Some of the skills mentioned by Border include a Pimpillo bomb that has a large area of effect for damage, Sting Shards to extend peaks when hit, a Straight Pins that can be launched from a distance to injure enemies. Hornet can use tools through crests, which are customizable tool loads.

Hollow Knight: Song of Silk is a complete sequence for the first game with a completely new character, enemies, worlds and more. The game started its life as an extended Kickstarter DLC goal for the first game, but the developers quickly realized that an experience starring the Hornet was worth developing in its own game that would also serve as a “perfect starting point for new players. , “according to co-director Ari Gibson
For these reasons, you don’t have to worry about the game just being a glorified expansion for the first game, especially with the time Team Cherry is taking to improve the experience.
