Silent Hill may be receiving two reboots, with one from Medium Dev – Report

Konami may not be preparing one, but two new entries from Silent Hill, with a Japanese developer preparing for a revelation this summer.

The report, compiled by VGC, suggests that Konami may be preparing two different reboots from the popular horror franchise, with one already under development in a Japanese studio. Bloober Team, developer of The Medium, could potentially be working on another, with CEO Piotr Babieno confirming that the studio is working on a terror IP from a “very famous game publisher”.

“We have been working on another game project for another year, another horror IP, and we are doing this with a very famous game publisher,” Babieno said in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz. “I can’t tell you who. I can’t tell you what the project is, but I’m sure that when people realize that we are working on it, they will be very excited.”

This aligns with other tips that Bloober may be working on his own entrance to Silent Hill. Earlier this year, famous Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka confirmed that he was working with Bloober on another game outside of The Medium. Just a few weeks ago, Yamaoke also appeared in a video where he sparked a project he described as “the one you expected to hear”. The video was quickly taken down, with Konami denying involvement.

VGC reports that Konami previously approached Until Dawn developer Supermassive Games to develop an entry into Silent Hill, but the plans failed and the deal was never signed. Supermassive is currently working on an anthology series called The Dark Pictures. The next chapter, The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes, will be released later this year.

The Silent Hill being developed in Japan will also be a departure from the familiar gameplay of the series, which could be the reason why Konami may also have looked for another more traditional reboot idea.

The Bloober Team recently confirmed that it was looking to add more combat mechanics to its next title, after The Medium relied solely on exploring and solving puzzles. Considering how The Medium is similar to Silent Hill in its presentation, it’s not hard to imagine Bloober dealing with the long-dormant franchise to follow.
