Atlanta rapper Silento was arrested for the murder of his cousin, who was shot dead last month in DeKalb County, Georgia, officials said on Monday.
Silento, whose real name is Ricky Hawk, 23, was charged on Sunday on suspicion of murder, the DeKalb County prison records show.
An incident report from the DeKalb County Police Department shows that officers found Frederick Rooks, 34, lying on a road in Panthersville, southeast of Atlanta, at about 3:30 am on January 21.
Rooks was shot in the face and leg, the report says. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors heard multiple shots and alerted authorities, the report says. The security video showed several cars fleeing, one of them honking.
The department did not provide further details on how investigators identified Silento as the suspect.
Silento representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Silento’s 2015 single, “Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)”, earned him a spot at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and television nominations.
Silento was arrested last year and charged with driving at 143 mph on Interstate 85, said NBC affiliate WXIA Atlanta. He told police he was speeding because he was followed after leaving a club in Gwinnett County, according to the police station.
